*NEWS. Can’t buy Feareds music on Itunes? Send me a PM and you can buy lossless WAVs directly from me.
Time to do a little longer presentation. I’m Ola Englund, born 1981, live in Stockholm Sweden together with my wife, son and dog. I’ve been playing guitar since 1994. My biggest influence that got me into guitar playing was actually Kurt Cobain of Nirvana. He made it easy to play guitar. Quickly after the metal music world opened up to me, starting with Pantera and Bolt Thrower. With the release of Far beyond Driven I was hooked, I had never heard anything more raw and brutal. Dimebag is my biggest influence of all time, you could probably hear a lot of him in my riffing. I can name a lot of other thrash/metal bands that I listened to to this day but I’m just going to the name the ones that really made an impact on me playing and music wise.
I started listening to Dream Theater and John Petrucci with the release of their Falling into infinity album. Some claim it’s their worst album but it’s actually my fave. Shows a different side to Dream Theater other than Awake and Images and Words. Anyway John Petrucci has been a big influence on my lead playing.
At this time I started playing in bands, the most serious and successful(if you can call one record release a success) one was Subcyde. If you search for it on google you’ll probably going to find old demos and reviews and stuff. We kept going from 1997-2007 so it was kind of a long journey with great friends. In 2007 we put the band on hold. We all needed to get away from each other and try out new things. I had a lot of songs piling up so I found this singer and we started the project Feared together. Easy setup. Just me recording songs and then put vocals on them. We formed a real band and did around 10 gigs. The singer moved to another town in Sweden so we put the real band on hold. But I’ve kept recording songs as you can see and hear on my youtube page. In the beginning of 2010 I joined the band Scarpoint as a second and lead guitarist.
I’ve always been a huge fan of brutal guitars and I’ve always been searching for the perfect sound(don’t we all!). I’ve been recording bands and stuff since Cakewalk 8 or 9 so I’ve had my share bit of recording. Also went to school a year for a Audio Engineer degree. In 2003 I built a studio together with a friend in Stockholm. The studio is still active and is called Midtown Music.
I’ve owned several amps in chronological order(probably forgotten a few):

Hi Ola, I have a question about Guitar Hacks Impulses. I recently watched a video of yours where you used it, and thought they sounded great, so I decided to try it out with my Pod XT Live. However, I have no fucking clue how to use it. Could you please make a quick tutorial of some sort to the noobs out there who don’t know how to use this?
I think it would be better if you checked the following link:
http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/production-tips/427135-impulse-faq.html
Hey,
can I ask you what string gauges you use for your Drop Tuned guitars ?
Keep up the good work,
Luke
For my MTM2 I use 12-60 ddadario strings. On my RGD I use 10-58 I think.
as far as i know Daddario doesn’t make strings 12-60. Their heaviest gauge is 11-49. Unless you buy a 7 string pack and even then it’s 10-59 or 11-59. I even checked the jazz sets
then you know little: http://store.daddario.com/category/339134/EXL148_Extra_Heavy_12-60
Indeed. Lol. Thanks for educating me.
hey ola!
first of all…you rock dude! nice work so far!
which videocamera do you use for your utube videos?
rock on!
Thanks man, I just recently bought a Nikon D7000. Such an awesome cam!
hei ola !
i love your vids and i got the Ibanez MTM 2 too, i ordered it, it should arrive soon.. now i ask you:
What do you think is the best AMP and what is the best Pedal for it? I want to play Slipknot and that stuff..
Hey Ola! I stumbled across your amusing videos on youtube and made it here to your site. I like the Feared stuff! Badass tone considering you’re working Direct In. I was wondering, did you go to an actual school for your Audio Engineering degree or did you take online courses?
I’m a drummer and guitarist and I have my own home recording studio, but I’d like to pursue certification or a degree in Audio Engineering online and can’t decide whether some places are worth the money or not.
Hey,
I did the SAE audio engineering class back in 2002 as well as building a studio. A lot of my knowledge comes from recording bands over and over again.
Good luck! /Ola
Hey Ola you are great dude!! i’ve enjoyed a lot browsing thru your stuff.
regars from argentina!
Congratulations on the upcoming records! i just wanted to say that your tones are all totally sick, and you have some of the best riffage I have ever heard. In all fairness, you are one of my favorite guitarists. Keep up the good work.
Two quick questions, though: First, what wah do you use? (the one in the Krank video sounds friggin’ awesome)
Second, what gauge of strings do you use for your seven string guitars? I have a 5150, and I can’t seem to get the same punch that you do. Thanks!
Thanks a lot dude!
HAH the Wah I was using was a Behringer Hellbabe, the only one that I had around
sounds awesome but in plastic so I would never use it live.
For my 7 string I use 10-60. The scale is 26.5 on the guitar so those strings are nice and thick.
Cheers
Thanks a lot, man!
Hey Ola! I wanted to ask you a question regarding Guitar Hack Impulses. I just downloaded the rar file. When i extracted the rar file, i got folders with various .wav files. now how do i use them in softwares like garageband? Please help me on this one.
Thanks! \m/
Awesome songs, man! Your tones and riffs are mind-blowing! I just had a question, though. What tuner do you use? I have tried a few and I can never get a low B or Bb to register accurately. It’s drivin me nuts!
Yeah it’s kinda hard getting the low tuning to register but I usually tune by ear or using the 12 fret harmonic.
sweet thanks
Hey Ola, really impressed with all your stuff!
I wanted to ask you about guitar cabinets, I was going to get a 2×12″ Rect cab for recoding but my friend keeps saying I need to get a 4×12″ or hell will freeze over.
Then I see you using a small Roadster cab so I’d like to hear your take on it!
Cheers from an Island in the North.
Depends on what you’re using it for? At rehearsal it will probably sound cooler with a 4×12 but live where you mic the guitars into a PA you wont need more than a 2×12.
/Ola
Thanks for the reply!
My main concern is how it sounds in the recording studio.
i cant comment on youtube as my account is all fucked up however i must mention in regard to your ibanez MTM2 you mentioned not having the word SEVEN on the neck. i noticed that the frets make the ‘v’ look like an ‘M’ making it sav “SEIVIEN”
IT SAYS SEMEN ON THE DUDES GUITAR!!!!!!!!
oh and your music is cool and your production exemplary.
also go listen to my band on that facebook link i have posted under website, it will soon have new better recordings thanks to your wisdom.
yeah that’s why I didn’t buy the MTM1
I will listen to your shit man…
ola you are the shit. I was wondering what pickups are in your mtm2
Thanks man,
V8 and V7 pickups. Ibanez stock pickups
Jag undrar vilka priser ni har i eran studio tex att spela in typ 2 låtar med trummor, gitarr etc. Tack på förhand!
Tja, eftersom jag inte har någon fysisk studio så spelar jag inte in band.
Mvh Ola
thanks ola am now just getting into ibanez now because of you and sooo much sweeter than my gibsons. one more question do you use the mac book to record or the imac? and I am looking to start recoreding now and I would love for you to tell me what exactly I will need for a computer. Thanks for the heavey influence I hope to show you some of my riffs. soon.
since you haven’t answered yet logic full tetail or student whatever the smaller version?
Hello man, for a drum, you use Superior drummer? andy sneap patch or other?
thanks
Yes I do. Check out my Superior 2.0 tutorial or check the tutorial section for the preset.
oh yeah! great,
un grand merci de la France!
Hey ola! Love your shit man.. I get a boner every time I see a YouTube update from you in my subscription feed. Quick question, I got your feared albums on iTunes but couldn’t find the new scarpoint album.. Where can I get it?
Hey dude,
only way to get the scarpoint is to buy the hard copy from : http://www.bengans.se/product.aspx?Currency=sek&language=en&skivkod=880745§ion=music
Hey Ola! I’ve seen that through donations by Paypal is possible to receive the Feared album and EP. It Could be possible in the future to receive the Scarpoint album in the same way? I’m from Spain and it’s impossible to find The Mask of Sanity album, I’ve been searching on itunes, spotify and others digital stores but nothing… Thanks
Mycket bra stuff! Feared finns även på Spotify om någon hade missat det.

HI, amazing vids, good compositions too.
I am in a similar style of yours
I was thinking of buying engl e530, do you think the tone is similar to the powerball, what other amp would you compare with?
thanks!
I would say it still has that Engl-vibe going on. I wouldn’t say it sounded like the powerball. More that it sounds like Engl.
Hey Ola
I was looking through your site a bit, and you constantly seem to get alot of the same questions. So i got an idea.
Why dont you make some kind of FAQ on the site?? Where you can write all the stuff such as what gauge of strings you use, and how to this and how to that, info about your gear and such..
I thought it could be a cool idea, and that way you will have more time for the more specific questions. If you do have a FAQ somewhere on your site, i have missed it… Anyways.
Regards from Denmark!
Sounds like a good idea. I’ll get something done…
Hi Ola, I know you get tonnes of mail, but if you could give me some advice I’d really appreciate it. What would you recommend in terms of pro sounding recordings/ ease of use and versatility? I currently own a savage 120, but have been researching the axe fx ultra. Would the axe fx be a wiser choice for a home studio wanting to do anything from punk to hard rock and metal? By the way, love your videos and your tones. Very inspiring, best videos on youtube. Keep it up
Hey man,
your stuff is sick, im really in awe over your tone, and your chops are massive. I really appreciate all the stuff you have posted showcasing different gear. I posted a clip with the pod hd rectifier tone. It still needs work but its getting there. Id be thrilled of you gave me your opinion of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZjOBkAtuQs
Your’s was the only video that I felt gave a worthwhile comparison of the podhd vs the axefx rectifier tones. Thanks for that
Hi Ola,
I’m a huge fan of your amp video’s.
I have a question; currently i am building an amprack. I have a Mesa/Boogie triple rectifier and i want a second amp to go with that. I’m thinking about a Mesa Mark V or a Roadster (i’m a mesa guy, sorry).
Since you have tried them all…..which amp would you think sounds best together with a (3 channel) triple rectifier?
Thanks for your time, and keep up the very good work!
Best regards, Roel
Hey,
What in your opinion are the best amps for melodeath/blackend death and metalcore?
Hi as a long time viewer of your Youtube Clips, i am just wondering, if you are still using any Amp live or only your Axe FX II with solidestate Amp. Regards
Hello. I am planning to buy my son his second guitar. He have today an LTD Alexi 200 in drop c tuning in his band. Now he wants to have an E tuning guitar. I wonder if this Ibanez MTM2 works to tune in E?
Nice homepage u got dude.

Hy Ola, you using a mixer for recording? And use a korg nanokontrol 2 in the Line 6 Pod HD Pro – Metal video?
